The second time around

The second time around

Sometimes in life a second chance is all you need. Often, things are better the second time around. It’s hard for myself (not remembering much doesn’t help) to even imagine my life before #tbi I’m very grateful to just be alive though, so instead I’m living in the now, I’m appreciating life. This is actually very difficult to do with #tbi as so much has changed. It’s important, however, to appreciate all you do have and celebrate the small victories. That’s what todays blog is about, celebrating the little things

Recently, I wrote a blog touting my success on walking to the coffee store. This was my way of celebrating a small victory. I’ve since made a new goal of standing up from my chair without using my hands to push off. I’m sharing this because writing things down, and holding yourself accountable is important. I’m hoping to build on short term goals, combining them to achieve my main goal to walk again. There’s a lot involved, I’ve actually been on quite the journey already, please join me on this adventure. I sincerely appreciate those that have already been supporting, mahalo for believing in me #tbi

Rewatching movies or shows is something I have come to thoroughly enjoy. Although considered to be a waste of time, rewatching shows has actually been great for my memory recall. Sometimes, I’ll remember what I was doing the first time watching and a flood of old memories come back #tbi Often times I’ll rewatch episodes I just watched, not simply because you tend to pick up on things you missed the second time, but also because I might simply forget what was even happening. Plot points overall seem to get engrained better the second time around. My take away from all this is that repetition seems to be key to memory recall

Another addition to my routine, that I’ve picked up recently, is strength training for my neck. I’d like to give credit to Naudi Aguilar, the founder of functional patterns, for creating and bringing to market the functional neck. My wife has been telling me for a while how I should incorporate neck exercises into my routine. This addition has been a game changer. I’ve had my neck adjusted several times previously, but that fails in comparison to the relief the function neck is able to provide. Sitting in a wheelchair, for five years straight, has done terribly overall for my posture and neck flexibility. This new device is properly moving my neck muscles, some that may have not been used for years, through exercise. My improved neck mobility is a victory – yay me, that would be an example of celebrating the small things. I highly recommend the function neck, as well as functional patterns in general, to anyone battaling #tbi

Mahalo for reading, I hope this blog provided some traumatic brain inspiration #tbi You never know what might come next, so be grateful for what you do have and live in the now. There is nothing, but improvement on the horizon. Just take it step by step, day by day. It’s a fresh start over, a different hand to play. Only time will tell, but you know what they say, we’ll make it better the second time around #tbi
